Oops! I’m a day behind on my A-Z Challenge post for the letter N! I had intended to write it yesterday – honest! As it turns out, I ran out of time. I went to visit one of my dearest friends yesterday morning for breakfast. Arriving at 9am, the idea was breakfast with her and her three children and a bit of house hunting …. fast forward and next thing I know I’m only just arriving back home at 10pm. Long breakfast!
Anyway, moving right along. Instead of doing one of my usual travel snapshots I thought I’d do a more general post highlighting the beauty of nature, from a photographic perspective (similar to my post on Journeys). But first …what is nature?
naturenoun
- the phenomena of the physical world collectively, including plants, animals, the landscape, and other features and products of the earth, as opposed to humans or human creations.
- the basic or inherent features, character, or qualities of something.
I love the outdoors. And I don’t just mean getting outside and doing things, I mean I like looking at nature. I’m probably not alone in saying that I love sunsets – that dazzlingly stunning light show we are treated to each evening, it just leaves you feeling a sense of awe. Sunrises are often just as beautiful but I’m not a “morning person” so I don’t see as many of those as I’d like! I also have a real fascination with trees, I know … I’m a little odd perhaps 🙂 But ever since I was a child I’ve been drawn to them – their size and shape, their twisted bark and unique shapes … like a fingerprint. And there’s something so appealing to me of the “lone tree” – I find them beautiful. So, I’m going to share a few of my favourite photos of nature … in all her magnificent glory. Well … almost all, I’ve left animal photos out as there’s plenty of those in my posts on Kruger, Etosha and Chobe if you’d like to check them out!
TREES:
PLANTS:
ROCKS & OCEAN:
SUNSETS (I have so many sunset shots … I think I’ll need to do a post just on them alone lol):
OTHER:
So, tell me … are you a nature-lover as well? Is there any particular part of nature that you feel yourself drawn too? Are you more at home near the water or desert or woodland? Are you a sunrise or sunset fan? Would you rather oceans or rivers? Vast forests or lone trees? Is there a particular animal you would love to see in their natural element?

I had the same problem yesterday! I always write a day ahead and yesterday I decided to spend more time with a dear friend. I’m glad I did though, and I hope you are too! I love all the different type of tree pictures you took!

I completely agree! I had a fantastic day, I’m so glad it played out like it did. She’s one of my oldest friends and we hadn’t see each other since before Christmas! I’m glad you liked the photos … I’ve been stuck indoors all day so they’ve been the only bit of nature I’ve seen today myself lol.
Have a great Sunday!

Beautiful pictures Kim. I love some of the desert shots especially, so different from the terrain here in Alberta. I’m a City girl, I guess I was raised one. I hated camping in tents with my family and refused to do it after age 16. I’m allergic to everything – grass, mold, pollen and even though allergy meds help I still have trouble with the after a hike. I like to admire nature for a few hours and afternoon and then I’m good lol. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Mandi! I’m a city girl too (from Sydney) but I prefer the isolation of deserts or mountains. I’ve been looking at visiting Canada, I haven’t been there yet (shock horror!!). I have a stack of friends there though, in Calgary and Edmonton but in Toronto and Quebec too. The scenery looks spectacular over there!! I totally relate to the allergy thing too … I get hayfever and I’m an asthmatic so nature can be a nightmare lol 🙂

Thanks, Miriam. You’re so right, sometimes I get so caught up in “stuff” I forget to make the most of my weekends (I say stuff because when I look back I’m not entirely sure what was keeping me so occupied!) Hope your family get together was wonderful! 🙂

This are gorgeous pictures!! I love almost all of nature, but I admit that my favorite scene is always looking out over the ocean. A good forest is my second choice.

Thanks, Ann. I agree … there’s something very soothing about the ocean (or water in general really). Forests are lovely too, particularly rainforests 🙂

Haha it’s so funny you say that! I did hug one of those quiver trees. They’re just so bizarre and with bark like that you just have to touch it.
Thanks for your support as always, Daisy xo

Love your post Kim, and your fabulous photos. I especially love your pictures of the trees and the one of the tree growing out of an old car is wonderful.

Thanks, Pamela. There’s something lovely and tactile about trees.
That place, with the old car, is amazing. I have quite a few photos from there, as there are lots of old cars scattered around 🙂
