P is for Prague. P is also for photograph, so this Post will be a Photographic trip around Prague. But for beginners … Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic. It is a large, easily navigable city with a host of historical sites to tempt the traveller to stay a while and explore. It’s architecture is intricate and beautiful, it’s food delicious and hearty, and the people are most welcoming. So, for your viewing Pleasure …

  2. Love Prague. I had the unusual experience of visiting it for the first time with just me and my 14-year-old son, who was more interested in the buskers and con artists at the edges of the old town square than in the rest of the city. We spent hours there, which was fascinating. But not entirely fulfilling as far as seeing the rest of the sights.

    1. I’ve not met too many people who dislike Prague. It seems to have something to please everyone – even if it is the buskers & con artists 🙂 What a great thing to be able to do with your son too.

  5. The photos are wonderful Kim. I think some of the architecture is Gothic – the church buildings? I love the mix of scenic riverways and the hurly-burly of city life. Wonderful interpretation of the letter P and combining two elements to illustrate today’s letter. 🙂 Linda

    1. Thank you, Linda. Prague is so varied, it really does lend itself well to photography. I believe you’re right, these are largely Gothic in nature but with such history I’m sure there’d be quite a few examples of architecture on display in the city 🙂

  13. It’s funny – I remember being disappointed by Prague when I went in 2003. But I think it was because I had built it up so much in my mind from what I read and found it to be less “eastern” and more crowded than I expected. I think if I’d been there in the mid-late 90s maybe it would have been different.

    1. I actually agree with you, Louise. I like Prague – don’t get me wrong – it’s a pretty city and has its charm. But it fell short of my expectations too. I have friends who loved it – raved about how they’d like to move there – so based on that, I was expected to be wowed! That didn’t happen. In reality, I prefer both Krakow and Warsaw to Prague. And the little gem of Cesky Krumlov surpassed all of those big cities by a mile.

      1. I think travelling is an interesting experience in expectations meet reality. Budapest was my WOW in the way I thought Prague would be. I loved Berlin so much more than I thought I would. I went to Paris at 14 so excited to see the Mona Lisa and … it’s really small. Dublin was industrial when I thought it would be more like what Edinburgh turned out to be … etc.. etc… It’s less a judgement of any of those places or things and more about everything I thought before I got there. And having never written that out I’m now thinking there’s a pretty solid life lesson in that about never deciding on anything, place or person until you actually see it, go there or meet them.

      2. I couldn’t have said it better, Louise. I’ve learnt so much from travel, experiencing other cultures but also just seeing these places with my own eyes. Always best to reserve judgement and forming an opinion of a place/person until you have first hand knowledge or experience of it. I think that’s part of the fun of travelling though – the discovery of reality.

  16. While we enjoyed Prague, it was so full of people, tourists just like us.
    My favourite memory is waliking across the Charles Bridge early in the morning with few people around and dinner by the river looking across at the Castle
    It’s a lovely city.
