CB&W: Letters S or T

Time for another of Cee’s Black and White Photography Challenges! This week is looking at things starting with the letters S and/or T. And I have a submission for both … 

For S: sand. I was going to post a photo of the sand dunes at Sossusvlei. I figured I might get bonus points for the double-S reference. Not that there are points of course, but you know what I mean 🙂 But then I thought of a different type of sand – beach sand – and I knew what my submission would have to be. I took this photo on the beach at Khao Lak in Thailand. Just on sunset and there were literally hundreds of these patterns in the sand. They are the little houses dug out by tiny crabs and I was just so struck with the incredibly pretty and artistic pattern of the discarded sand.

For T: texture. I love wildlife. That’s no secret to those who have read my posts on my safaris in southern Africa or seen my Instagram account (@ktr239). One of my favourite animals to photograph is the elephant. I find they have so much character and that’s largely evident in the textures, contours and details of their skin (wait … that’s an S, so I guess I have done a double-S post after all). So, I thought I would convert the textures of an elephant’s skin to black and white … and I have to say, I really like the end result.
