Reading

Moving away from the travel snippets for today. Life can’t always be holidays and exploration, not on my salary anyway! There have to be other joys to keep us entertained and without doubt my favourite past time for a quiet day at home is to pick up a book and lose myself in it pages. In reality, reading is something I do every day. Without fail. Sometimes for many hours on end. Voracious reader would be an apt description if ever there was one. I am a devourer of words.  Continue reading “Reading”

YOLO

I was going to take everyone to a new destination today. I realise I haven’t done many (or should I say, any) posts on my travels in Europe or the USA. I had though Yosemite would be an excellent first post on the States. But alas, as minds often do, my has changed course. I’ve been thinking about that little “word” – YOLO. Now, anyone who has read my post titled On the subject of LOL has probably picked up that I’m not a fan of these acronyms that pop up so frequently. Nevertheless, let’s examine the meaning of YOLO … Continue reading “YOLO”

T is for Travel, but it’s also for Train Wreck …

I’ll be honest, I’ve been really looking forward to writing something for the A-Z Challenge today. It’s time for the letter T. Those of you who have read my blog before will know that I’m an avid traveller. I love it. It’s my greatest passion! So it should be no surprise that Travel, and why I adore it, was to be the subject up for discussion today. That’s right … I said “was”. I’m going on a completely different tangent. In my recent post on Journeys my friend Cheryl, over at Two Brown Feet, commented that she loves to travel by subway. My response was that I avoid trains (or anything resembling a train) like the plague. I’m going to explain why I don’t like trains … Continue reading “T is for Travel, but it’s also for Train Wreck … “

Author Interview – Owen Baillie

As a follow up to my recent Book Review on the Invasion of the Dead series by Owen Baillie, I’ve decided to do an author interview! This is my first attempt at interviewing a writer and Owen has been gracious enough to play along. I’ve known Owen for a short while now and have had the pleasure of being a Beta Reader for him on both Escape (book
three of the I.O.T.D series) and his recent novel Murder Inc. Continue reading “Author Interview – Owen Baillie”

Book Review – I.O.T.D Series

I had always planned to do some book reviews as part of my blog. Actually, the original plan was to do one review each month, based on a book that I had just read in the preceding few weeks. With a goal of hitting at least 30 books in the year, that should be an easy feat. Those of you who have read my earlier posts are aware that 2016 starting badly and as a result my reading slipped a little. I was too busy being heartbroken and furious, Continue reading “Book Review – I.O.T.D Series”

Quote Challenge – #3

So, it’s my final day for the quote challenge I was nominated for by Niki over at The Richness of a Simple Life and my final quote is my favourite of all time:

Best-Travel-Picture-Quote-Mark-Twain-Explore-Dream-Discover

This sums up the great adventure that is life. It is about having the courage to let go, to step outside our comfort zone and experience new things. To be fearless and live a full life Continue reading “Quote Challenge – #3”

Quote Challenge – #2

Following on from yesterdays post … it’s day two of the quote challenge that Niki at The Richness of a Simple Life nominated me for … and here’s my quote of the day:

edmundburke377528

This has long been a favourite of mine. I first came across it when I was at university and I had to complete a museum review for my studies. It was engraved on an exhibit that housed little, tiny children’s shoes. Shoes of children who had perished in German Continue reading “Quote Challenge – #2”

Quote Challenge – #1

I’ve been nominated by Niki over at The Richness of a Simple Life to participate in a challenge. I must say, I was super excited to receive the invite and love the idea of sharing some of my favourite quotes that will hopefully add a little something for people to reflect on.  The idea is to post a new quote every day for three consecutive days. Today being my first day I’ve select the below:

mayaangelou578763

I love the simplicity of this. But the message it conveys is so much more important. To me Continue reading “Quote Challenge – #1”

On the subject of LOL

So I’ve been laying here for hours now pondering on that one little, overused word … “LOL”. Now I might be showing my age here but I remember when LOL was born. It stood for “lots of love” and adorned many a letter or card between friends and family. For better or worse, that meaning is considered old school now. Funnily enough, I have an old school friend (pun intended) who still signs her emails to me with the “lots of love” acronym. But she is a rare-breed, a lone voice of defiance in a world where LOL has come to mean “lots of laughs” and is more prolific than a bunch of 20-something’s on a Saturday night.

But here’s the thing about LOL. Continue reading “On the subject of LOL”
