Snapshot … Chobe

As some of you will no doubt be aware by now, I’m participating in the A-Z Challenge this month. Given that today’s post must be about something starting with C and in light of my previous posts on Kruger & Etosha, I thought I’d cover yet another national park. This time it’s Chobe N.P in Botswana. Located in the north of the country, Chobe is just under
12,000 square kilometres in size. Which makes it significantly smaller than the previous Continue reading “Snapshot … Chobe”

Snapshot … Boulders Beach

Following on from my recent travel snapshots on Namibia and South Africa, I thought I’d look at place I visited there that didn’t revolve around safaris or landscapes. So today, I’m talking about Boulders Beach. Boulders Beach is located south of Cape Town, right down near the Cape Peninsula. It’s situated just near the seaside village of Simon’s Town. Now despite three trips to Cape Town in the last couple of years, it wasn’t until my most recent Continue reading “Snapshot … Boulders Beach”

Snapshot … Angkor Thom

Those of you who have read my post on Project Hammer will know that I’ve been lucky enough to visit Cambodia on a couple of occasions. Now, I struggle to find anything about Cambodia that I don’t like. I just love it there. But the temples of Angkor would have to rate as one of my favourite places in that stunning country. Angkor Thom was the capital was of the Khmer empire, so it contains quite a lot of temples and cities. It’s located near Continue reading “Snapshot … Angkor Thom”

Snapshot – Etosha

Following on from my previous post on Kruger, I figured it would be fun to showcase another National Park. This time it’s Etosha in Namibia. Like Kruger, I’ve also visited Etosha on two occasions. My first trip was in August 2014 and then I returned in January 2015. It was quite interesting to see this place in two different seasons as the landscape changes quite noticeably. Both visits to the park were done while on a small group Continue reading “Snapshot – Etosha”

Snapshot – Kruger

Time for another travel snapshot! And this one is going to be fairly photo heavy. I recently read a post by my friend, Niki, entitled Dream Destination and it got me thinking about one of my dream destinations. It’s a place I’ve been fortunate enough to have visited a couple of times and I’m always looking for the next opportunity to return. It’s Kruger National Park (or more specifically Greater Kruger) in South Africa. My first visit there was Continue reading “Snapshot – Kruger”

Author Interview – Owen Baillie

As a follow up to my recent Book Review on the Invasion of the Dead series by Owen Baillie, I’ve decided to do an author interview! This is my first attempt at interviewing a writer and Owen has been gracious enough to play along. I’ve known Owen for a short while now and have had the pleasure of being a Beta Reader for him on both Escape (book
three of the I.O.T.D series) and his recent novel Murder Inc. Continue reading “Author Interview – Owen Baillie”

Book Review – I.O.T.D Series

I had always planned to do some book reviews as part of my blog. Actually, the original plan was to do one review each month, based on a book that I had just read in the preceding few weeks. With a goal of hitting at least 30 books in the year, that should be an easy feat. Those of you who have read my earlier posts are aware that 2016 starting badly and as a result my reading slipped a little. I was too busy being heartbroken and furious, Continue reading “Book Review – I.O.T.D Series”

Project Hammer – Cambodia

I thought I’d write about something a little different today. Something that is really important to me and one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Project Hammer – Cambodia: a community minded group that do volunteer trips to Cambodia each year and who support approximately six different charitable organisations in and around the capital city of Phnom Penh. This particular post will be about the trip I did with them in late 2012, accompanied by two good friends of mine from back home. I first visited Cambodia in Continue reading “Project Hammer – Cambodia”

Quote Challenge – #3

So, it’s my final day for the quote challenge I was nominated for by Niki over at The Richness of a Simple Life and my final quote is my favourite of all time:

Best-Travel-Picture-Quote-Mark-Twain-Explore-Dream-Discover

This sums up the great adventure that is life. It is about having the courage to let go, to step outside our comfort zone and experience new things. To be fearless and live a full life Continue reading “Quote Challenge – #3”

Quote Challenge – #2

Following on from yesterdays post … it’s day two of the quote challenge that Niki at The Richness of a Simple Life nominated me for … and here’s my quote of the day:

edmundburke377528

This has long been a favourite of mine. I first came across it when I was at university and I had to complete a museum review for my studies. It was engraved on an exhibit that housed little, tiny children’s shoes. Shoes of children who had perished in German Continue reading “Quote Challenge – #2”
