Sticking with Africa for today’s A to Z Challenge post. Heading south from where we were yesterday, we arrive in Namibia. Hands down, without question, Namibia is one of my favourite countries … I’ve already written about my three favourite places in Namibia if you’d care to follow the links and find out why 🙂 . It has a wealth of things to offer visitors – from the wildlife of Etosha National Park, to the desert landscapes of Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, and the coastal waters of the adventure capital Swakopmund. But further south still is Fish River Canyon. Continue reading “Snapshot – Fish River Canyon”
The theme for Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge this week is … Roads of Any Kind. So, I’ve opted for a dirt road. This photo was taken while on a game/safari drive in January 2015 in Etosha National Park in Namibia. I like the little touch of the zebra crossing, an animal most often thought of as black and white (even though they have some brown too). Continue reading “CB&W: roads of any kind”
Time for another weekly photo challenge from Hugh … this week’s theme is “fresh”. The first thing that comes to mind for me when someone says fresh is “clean”. In terms of photos though, this is the one that sprung to mind: Continue reading “Hugh’s Weekly Photo Challenge: Week 21 – “Fresh””
I’ve seen a number of posts from people who are participating in these weekly photo challenges and it always looks like such fun so I’ve decided to give it a go! The theme this week for Hugh’s Weekly Photo Challenge is solitude.
As soon as I read the word “Solitude” I knew which photo I wanted to share. The following photo was taken at Deadvlei in Namibia in January 2015. The person in the shot is a good friend of mine, lets call him J. I met J in 2013 when he was my tour guide for my first trip to southern Africa. I returned in January 2015 to travel with J yet again because he was Continue reading “Hugh’s Weekly Photo Challenge: Week 20 – “Solitude””
Following on from my previous post on Kruger, I figured it would be fun to showcase another National Park. This time it’s Etosha in Namibia. Like Kruger, I’ve also visited Etosha on two occasions. My first trip was in August 2014 and then I returned in January 2015. It was quite interesting to see this place in two different seasons as the landscape changes quite noticeably. Both visits to the park were done while on a small group Continue reading “Snapshot – Etosha”
It’s been a fortnight since my last travel snapshot, so it’s time for another one. The location was an easy choice. You can’t talk about Deadvlei without mentioning Sossusvlei. The two just go together like popcorn and m&m’s (seriously, try it … your tastebuds will thank you). If you are fortunate enough to travel to Namibia and see these two incredible places, you will travel through Sossusvlei to get to Deadvlei. Sossusvlei is located in the Continue reading “Snapshot … Sossusvlei”
So if you’ve read “About me” you’ll have noticed that my insatiable need to travel is mentioned. “Insatiable” … what a lovely word. I love the way it just rolls off the tongue, filled with so much promise, stirring a hunger unlike any other. It encapsulates perfectly this deep felt need I have to explore the world. I really can’t get enough of it. Travel is my drug of choice. And what a drug it is. The allure of distant places, vast landscapes, incredible wildlife, foreign culture … how could anyone resist it? Why would anyone want Continue reading “Snapshot … Deadvlei”
