Snapshot – Vienna

Vienna – Austria’s capital city and also it’s largest by population, is located in the eastern part of the country. It is without doubt an historic city and the architecture speaks to this lengthy and varied history. It is a city of large scale ornate buildings, statutes and sculptures, palaces and churches. I’ve been a couple of times, I confess I don’t remember much of it from my first trip but I returned in August 2016 so the memory is fresher now. Continue reading “Snapshot – Vienna”

CFFC: Winter – Water

As soon as I saw that the theme for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge was Winter – Water I knew exactly what I shot I wanted to submit. This photo was taken just before sunrise at St James Beach near Cape Town, South Africa in August 2015. It’s one of my favourite photos taken that day … and it ticks the boxes for both water and winter in one shot!  Continue reading “CFFC: Winter – Water”

Unusual Foods

A non-destination specific post for today’s A-Z Challenge letter. Mostly because I used up my only “U” location for last years post when I wrote about Uluru. So instead I’m discussing the one thing all of us can relate to, whether we travel internationally or domestically or no further than our own multicultural home towns, …. unusual foods. Every country has them. Some little oddity, a dietary quirk if you will, that is a signature of our culture or geographic region. Some are more unusual than others, some are just a unique combination of globally available food products. So, here’s some of the different foods I’ve tried to date: Continue reading “Unusual Foods”

Snapshot – Ta Prohm

Well, here we are folks. It’s the final week of the A-Z challenge, and a challenge it has been this year. I’ll confess I’ve struggled with the motivation to write and I’ve often felt like I’m behind and playing catch up. I realise that’s not the case, as I’ve posted on time each day (so far!) but I was far more organised for the 2016 version. So, I’m kicking the final week off with a visit to one of my favourite sites in Cambodia – Ta Prohm. Continue reading “Snapshot – Ta Prohm”

Snapshot – Sydney

G’day readers! Well, I’ve finally got around to it. Time for a post on my home town – the beautiful harbourside city of Sydney!! I know. I can’t believe in among all the travel posts that I’ve never written about the city I was born and raised in. The place that, no matter where in the world I may live or travel, will always be called home. So … lets get into it! Continue reading “Snapshot – Sydney”

CB&W: Letters O or P

Well, I haven’t done one of these for a while but I’ve been dying to get back into it. So here goes! This week’s photo challenge for Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge is the letters O or P. I’m going with O … for Opera House. My home town of Sydney has a pretty iconic and certainly unique looking opera house. Continue reading “CB&W: Letters O or P”

Snapshot – Queenstown

It has dawned on me that I don’t believe I’ve done a post on our nearest neighbour yet! The stunningly beautiful country of New Zealand. Home to some of the world’s most beautiful landscapes, it truly is a feast for the senses. I would love to return one day, as it’s been decades since I was last there. There’s no excuse really, it’s only a 3 hour flight from my home in Sydney to NZ. When I say it like that I feel rather ridiculous for delaying my return for so many years. Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos of New Zealand to share with you. At the time of my visit, all my photos were taken in slide format. Yep, slides. Old school or what? And sadly over the years those slides have faded to the point that they are no longer salvageable. So, this post is going to focus on NZ’s adventure activities capital, Queenstown, and some of the things I tried while there. Continue reading “Snapshot – Queenstown”

Snapshot – Prague

P is for Prague. P is also for photograph, so this Post will be a Photographic trip around Prague. But for beginners … Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic. It is a large, easily navigable city with a host of historical sites to tempt the traveller to stay a while and explore. It’s architecture is intricate and beautiful, it’s food delicious and hearty, and the people are most welcoming. So, for your viewing Pleasure … Continue reading “Snapshot – Prague”

Snapshot – Ossuary at Sedlec

Hmm. I feel it only fair to warn my readers that this blog post may contain images that some might find disturbing. I myself don’t have any issue with what I’m about to show you, I think it’s one of the most fascinating places I have ever visited and I hope that you can put aside any queasiness and just be amazed at the spectacle. I first came across this place while watching a travel show many years ago, so long ago that I could only remember the sight of it not where it was or what it was. Fast forward to August 2016, I’ve arrived in the Czech Republic, specifically Prague, and I’m talking to my guide about things to do while I’m here. A visit to the town of Kutna Hora, located outside Prague is mentioned. Why? Because of the Bone Church … Continue reading “Snapshot – Ossuary at Sedlec”

Snapshot – Nitmiluk National Park

So, here we are, already up to the letter “N” in the A-Z Challenge for 2017 and once again I have left it to late to write a post about my homeland, Australia. There’s no real reason why I typically don’t write much about home, it’s certainly not from a lack of things to talk about … this is an enormous country, with so much to offer it would take you months if not years to make a dent in all it offers. I make no apologies for saying that I’m fiercely proud to be an Australian and am fully prepared to acknowledge my total and utter biased in thinking it’s the most magnificent & beautiful country. I do love it. Continue reading “Snapshot – Nitmiluk National Park”
