Snapshot – Warsaw

When I was making a list of places I wanted to visit on my trip to Europe last year, Warsaw wasn’t actually on the “must see” pile. It was simply somewhere I was stopping at for a couple of days between Berlin and Krakow. I’m almost ashamed to admit to that now. As it turns out, Warsaw was one of the prettiest cities on the itinerary and I would gladly return. 

Snapshot – Vienna

Vienna – Austria’s capital city and also it’s largest by population, is located in the eastern part of the country. It is without doubt an historic city and the architecture speaks to this lengthy and varied history. It is a city of large scale ornate buildings, statutes and sculptures, palaces and churches. I’ve been a couple of times, I confess I don’t remember much of it from my first trip but I returned in August 2016 so the memory is fresher now.

Snapshot – Prague

P is for Prague. P is also for photograph, so this Post will be a Photographic trip around Prague. But for beginners … Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic. It is a large, easily navigable city with a host of historical sites to tempt the traveller to stay a while and explore. It’s architecture is intricate and beautiful, it’s food delicious and hearty, and the people are most welcoming. So, for your viewing Pleasure …

Snapshot – Ossuary at Sedlec

Hmm. I feel it only fair to warn my readers that this blog post may contain images that some might find disturbing. I myself don’t have any issue with what I’m about to show you, I think it’s one of the most fascinating places I have ever visited and I hope that you can put aside any queasiness and just be amazed at the spectacle. I first came across this place while watching a travel show many years ago, so long ago that I could only remember the sight of it not where it was or what it was. Snapshot – Krakow

It’s August 2016 and I’m only a week into my latest European trip when I find myself in the charming city of Krakow in Poland. Now, in fairness, Krakow was on my bucket list because of it’s proximity to Auschwitz (you can read about that visit here), but as I discovered, the old town has much to offer of it’s own to tempt travellers. 

Snapshot – Istanbul

Heading off to a completely different corner of the world today – the city of Istanbul in Turkey! This is one of those must see cities of the world. Seriously, it has so much to offer. Located in the north-west of Turkey and encompassing both banks of the Bosphorus River, Istanbul is a city that spans and connects Europe and Asia. Given it’s geographical importance, it should come as no surprise to hear that settlements in the area can be traced back as far as the 7th Century BC!! With such a lengthy past is it no wonder it’s one of the world’s most fascinating places.

It’s always hard to pick favourites from the places your travels have taken you, it feels disloyal to all the other wonderful places that have crossed your path. Snapshot … Gallipoli

So I’m returning to Turkey for today’s post and to a place that is important, not just to myself, but many Australians, New Zealanders, and Turkish … it’s called Anzac Cove on the Gallipoli peninsula. That one sentence will probably say it all to some readers but for those unfamiliar with Gallipoli, I shall explain further. To my New Zealand and Turkish friends, please excuse me if this post focuses a little on my homeland. When the First World War broke out in August 1914, Australia, still considering itself a colony, followed
