CB&W: Cars, Trucks & Motorcycles

I haven’t written for a long time but I happened to stumble across Cee’s Black and White Photo Challenge for this week and the theme grabbed my attention. So, here’s an entry or three for Cars, Trucks & Motorcycles. Taken in 2015 in a little town call Solitaire in the middle of nowhere in Namibia. There are a plethora Continue reading “CB&W: Cars, Trucks & Motorcycles”

CFFC: All One Colour

Here’s my submission for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: All One Colour. I had to go with blue, purely because it’s my favourite colour. This photo was taken on a photographic day trip during my visit to Cape Town in August 2015. I was standing at the lighthouse at the Cape Point, looking back towards the mountainous shore. The lesson, for this shot, from the photographer who accompanied us on the day was how to get away from AWB and manually adjust our white balance. Continue reading “CFFC: All One Colour”

CFFC: Isolated Subjects

Hello all! I’m still here! I haven’t gone and done and disappearing act again like I did after last year’s A-Z 🙂 But I am struggling with finding time to devote to writing and reading … and I envisage it’ll remain a struggle this month as I grapple with some major projects at work. So for the duration of May I may be sporadic with posting. Having said that, I couldn’t let Cee’s latest Fun Foto challenge pass by without submitting a photo. The theme is Isolated Subjects and I had a photo that I thought fit well. Continue reading “CFFC: Isolated Subjects”

CB&W: Letters S or T

Time for another of Cee’s Black and White Photography Challenges! This week is looking at things starting with the letters S and/or T. And I have a submission for both …  Continue reading “CB&W: Letters S or T”

CFFC: Sky

I was super excited to see Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge this week had the theme of “sky”. Seriously, if it’s possible to have an addiction to photographing sunsets – then I have it. I was looking through my photos and there must be hundreds of photos of them. Now, I realise the theme this week doesn’t specify “sunset sky” – any sky will do. But if I start including every shot I have of the sky … we’ll all be here a very, very long time. And I know you are all busy people with lives outside the blogosphere. So I will resist the temptation to flood your day with a million skies and give you a few. Okay, quite a few. Feel free to let me know which are your favourites! Continue reading “CFFC: Sky”

CB&W: Letters Q and R

The theme this week for Cee’s Black & White Photography Challenge is something beginning with Q and/or R. I’ve opted to submit a photo for each … I know, pretty daring. What can I say? I like to live on the edge. Continue reading “CB&W: Letters Q and R”

CFFC: Winter – Water

As soon as I saw that the theme for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge was Winter – Water I knew exactly what I shot I wanted to submit. This photo was taken just before sunrise at St James Beach near Cape Town, South Africa in August 2015. It’s one of my favourite photos taken that day … and it ticks the boxes for both water and winter in one shot!  Continue reading “CFFC: Winter – Water”

Unusual Foods

A non-destination specific post for today’s A-Z Challenge letter. Mostly because I used up my only “U” location for last years post when I wrote about Uluru. So instead I’m discussing the one thing all of us can relate to, whether we travel internationally or domestically or no further than our own multicultural home towns, …. unusual foods. Every country has them. Some little oddity, a dietary quirk if you will, that is a signature of our culture or geographic region. Some are more unusual than others, some are just a unique combination of globally available food products. So, here’s some of the different foods I’ve tried to date: Continue reading “Unusual Foods”

Guests at a bush BBQ

Today’s post for the A-Z Challenge is a little different. I’m not taking us to a location starting with “G” as I’ve done with the previous letters. I’m going to tell you a story about some memorable guests on an African safari in late August 2015. My friend Geraint & I were staying at nThambo Tree Camp in the Klaserie Private Reserve in Kruger National Park, South Africa. This amazing treehouse style lodge is one of the few places he & I will be returning to on our upcoming trip in August this year … that should give you a hint at how wonderful this particular safari lodge is! It was our fourth night of safari and as is normal practice we set out for our late afternoon game drive around 4pm. Continue reading “Guests at a bush BBQ”

Snapshot – Fish River Canyon

Sticking with Africa for today’s A to Z Challenge post. Heading south from where we were yesterday, we arrive in Namibia. Hands down, without question, Namibia is one of my favourite countries … I’ve already written about my three favourite places in Namibia if you’d care to follow the links and find out why 🙂 . It has a wealth of things to offer visitors – from the wildlife of Etosha National Park, to the desert landscapes of Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, and the coastal waters of the adventure capital Swakopmund. But further south still is Fish River Canyon. Continue reading “Snapshot – Fish River Canyon”
